Honours in Anthropology
To gain entry to the honours programme, students must have a minimum 3.5
grade point average for all university courses. To earn an honours degree,
students must obtain a minimum 3.5 grade point average on forty-eight
credit hours in anthropology courses, including the required courses,
and a minimum B grade on the honours thesis (ANTH 4666). Students planning
to attend graduate school should enrol in the honours programme.
Students intending
to complete an honours programme in anthropology must consult a faculty
advisor and present an application to the anthropology department no
later than the last day of February of the year preceding the anticipated
graduation date.
Students wishing
to pursue an honours programme are required to complete a minimum of
48 credit hours in anthropology, including the following required courses:
i. All of:
ANTH 1013 Introduction
to Cultural Anthropology
ANTH 1023 Introduction to Physical Anthropology
ANTH 1033 Introduction to Archaeology
ANTH 2513 or Cultural Anthropology
ANTH 2523 Social Anthropology
ANTH 2806 Readings in Anthropological Theory
ANTH 3913 Introduction to Qualitative Research Methods
ANTH 4003 Issues in Anthropology
ANTH 4013 Honours Seminar in Anthropology
ANTH 4666 Honours Thesis
Any course in area ethnography
ii. At least
one course at the 2000 level or above from each of archaeology and physical
anthropology
iii. Two additional
courses at the 3000 level or above.
