2013. Introduction to Linguistics I (PSYC)
Introduction to the scientific study of language and particularly to the terminology, theory, and
practice of linguistic analysis in phonetics, the study of the sounds of human language and
phonology, the study of the sound patterns of human languages. 3 credit hours. Students wishing to take this course as part of the French Majors Programme wil need to seek ermission
from the instructor by the end of March of the year in which the course is to be taken.

2023. Introduction to Linguistics II (PSYC)
Introduction to the scientific study of language and particularly to the terminology, theory and
practice of linguistic analysis in morphology (the study of word structure), syntax (the study of
phrase structure), and semantics (the study of meaning.) 3 credit hours. Students wishing to
take this course as part of the French Majors Programme wil need to seek permission from the
instructor by the end of March of the year in which the course is to be taken.

3913. Bibliography and Methods of Research
This course is compulsory for those students completing an Honours degree in French or Spanish and is designed to prepare the student to develop, research, plan, and complete a
written project on a literary topic. Students will become familiar with the library resources available, finding and assessing secondary sources, standard bibliographic format for references
and citations, and strategies for writing essays. 3 credit hours.

3923. Research Project
This course follows from ROML 3913. In this section and under the supervision of a faculty
member in the student's chosen language of specialization, students will independently develop,
plan, research, and present in written form an appropriate topic based on their individual interests. Prerequisite: ROML 3913 or permission of instructor. 3 credit hours.
