St. Thomas Scramble Supports Bursary Fund

4th Annual Alumni Golf Tournament

Fredericton Mayor, Hon. Les Hull, BT ‘72, David Mann and St. Thomas University President Dr. Daniel O’Brien enjoyed the day.

“As always, we are blessed with wonderful weather, fantastic friends and fabulous food,” were the words of Alumni Association President Derek Pleadwell, BA ‘93, BEd ‘94, at the Fourth Annual St. Thomas University Golf Tournament.

The event was held August 23rd at the Riverbend Golf & Fishing Club in Durham, NB. Sixty golfers participated in a round of 18 holes and then were treated to a steak dinner and lots of prizes. All proceeds raised from the day went toward the Millennium Bursary Programme in support of students with financial need.

Many thanks to our corporate sponsors (Johnson Insurance, Bradbury Hyundai, M.A. Stevens Inc., Pepsi Bottling Group, Scotia McLeod, the St. Thomas University Alumni Association, the St. Thomas University Student Alumni Association, Aramark Campus Services, Kiers Communication and Northumberland Dairy) and prize donors this year. A special thank you to Geroge Bradbury, BA ‘71, of Bradbury Hyundai for providing a vehicle for a hole-in-one prize on the 13th hole.

Congratulations to all of the winners! The scores were very close this year and whispers are already starting in regard to who will capture the trophy in 2003.

St. Thomas University students, Josh Duquesne, Scott Page, Ryan Lock and Chris Mahon made up the tournament’s winning team representing Moosehead Breweries.

Top prizes were awarded with longest drive (male) going to Derek Eardley, BA ‘93, longest drive (female) to Leitha Dean, BSW ‘84, closest to the pin going to Joe Robertson. The most honest golfers were fellow alumni, Anne Smith, Joan Teed, Jane Buckley and Leitha Dean and the top team was Josh Duquesne, Scott Page, Ryan Lock and Chris Mahon, St. Thomas students representing Moosehead Breweries.

Thank you, and we look forward to another great day next year.
