The University recognized Dr. Marie MacBeath as one of its two honorary fellows this year. An outstanding advocate of education, she passionately believes in the philosophy, “tell me and I will forget, show me and I will remember, involve me and I will understand.” This philosophy lies behind her inexhaustible efforts to expand, promote and attract people of all ages to Science East, an interactive science centre in Fredericton, New Brunswick.

Science East is only one of her accomplishments, in 2002, Dr. MacBeath won the prestigious Michael J. Smith Award for individuals or groups who make an outstanding contribution to the promotion of Science in Canada.

St. Thomas also acknowledged Normand Doucet, MA, for his longstanding contribution to the profession of social work and his role in medical social work and psychiatric social work in hospitals in Moncton.

He was the founding Director of the School of Social Work at the Université de Moncton where he established the Bachelor of Social Work programme as well as a field education programme and a certificate programme. He continued teaching at the Université de Moncton until his retirement a few years ago. His professional afiliations are extensive including being a founding member of the New Brunswick Association of Social Workers in 1963.
