David Butler, BA ‘63, BEd ‘66, is pleased to announce that his daughter, Susan Butler, has recently opened a physiotherapy clinic in Miramichi.

Gerard (Gerry) Delano, BA ‘68, retired from teaching at St. Malachy’s Memorial High School in Saint John, NB, in June of 2000.

Edward Sautiere, STU ‘65-‘69, recently retired from teaching/guidance after 32 years at Halifax Regional School Board. Edward is enjoying his four grandchildren Isabella, Genevieve, Andre and Andrew.

1970's

Richard B. Akin, BA ‘73, has been married to Heather Horncastle since 1975 and their daughter Jane will be graduating from St. Thomas University this spring. Their daughter Kate is in her second year at St. Thomas.

George Bidlake, BT ‘73, BEd ‘75, recently retired after 32 years of teaching in Fredericton.

Steve Byers, BA ‘72, has been the executive director of AIDS Niagara for the Region of Niagara for the past seven years. He developed a new programme, Hepatitis C Education and Prevention Program, which will now be funded by Health Canada for a two-year period. This will add to and complement the other current programs consisting of Support and Education, Needle Exchange, Outreach, Care giver Support, Friendly Visiting and 24-hour Supportive Housing for those affected by HIV/AIDS.

Following the success of his first five books, Canadian author Peter D. Clark, BA ‘78, BEd ‘83, has written Amazing Stories From New Brunswick. The principal story chronicles the life and times of DANNY GRANT, Calder Rookie of the year, a 50 goal scorer in the NHL and the Tommies assistant coach. This is another collection of true accounts: The Paris Crew of Saint John, Ernie McLean (the Stock Car Promoter), School Life in the 50’s and 60’s, Winter Horse Racing at Gagetown, More Lumber Camp Stories, The Tobique Then and Now, Clark’s Canadian Literacy and Book Tour, to name a few. Robert Collicott, BA ‘72, BEd ‘73, retired as principal of Tobique Valley High School in June of 2000. Robert is enjoying his retirement and the time he is able to spend with his two grandchildren.

Jim Gallant, BA ‘71, was recently awarded the 2002 Chairman’s Award for Employee Excellence from NAV Canada, the company that owns and operates Canada’s air navigation system. As training supervisor at the Moncton area control centre, Jim developed a training team and method that saw teams of instructors assigned to students before they left the regional school.

Lincoln Garraway, BA ‘79, is living in Toronto and works as the director of sales for his company. He has fond memories of St. Thomas and wishes to hear from fellow alumni and friends.

Mark Giberson, BA ’76, was recently named manager of internal communications with the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch at Health Canada in Ottawa. At the time of his appointment, Mark was a senior policy advisor with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat where he helped to develop and implement the federal government’s new communications policy. In addition to his work at Health Canada, Mark continues to operate The Giberson Group, an Ottawa-based communications consultancy. Next spring, Mark will be one of 35 Canadians who will be featured in a 90-minute television documentary marking the 50th anniversary of the TransCanada Highway. A former U.S. citizen of Loyalist descent, Mark will tell about the road trip he made with his late father in the fall of 1972 that led him to St. Thomas and a new life in Canada. The documentary, titled The Longest Road, will be aired on the History channel in June 2003.

Patrick Jamieson, BA ‘72, completed his second book tour to the Maritimes in October with the biography of Bishop Remi DeRoo titled “In the Avant Garde.” While on tour, he had a reading at Chapters in Dartmouth and was interviewed on Global TV, October 23, 2002.

Chia S. Lin, Prof. of mathematics from 1975-1981, is now retired from Bishop’s University, and was honored with Professor Emeritus of mathematics at Bishop’s. She is still active in writing and publishing math research articles, and one monograph was published, viz. Theory of 2-Inner Product Spaces, _ISBN 1-56072-900-7, Nova Science Publishers, Inc., New York, 2001. She is also an associate editor of Nonlinear Functional Analysis and Applications (an international mathematical journal for theory and application).

Judith Mullin, BA ‘73, BT ‘75, BEd ‘75, is retiring from Gretna Green Elementary School in Miramichi, School District 16, after 36 years of teaching. Judith is looking forward to retirement this June.

Bernard Riordon, BA ‘70, has been appointed Gallery Director and CEO of the Beaverbrook Art Gallery in Fredericton, NB. Mr. Riordon had been Director and CEO of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia for the past 30 years, during which time he built that institution from its humble origins to the respected and dynamic provincial institution that it is today. Born in the Bathurst, NB area, Mr. Riordon holds a BA in history and political science from St. Thomas University and in 1973, he completed course work towards an MA in history at Saint Mary’s University. Throughout his career, in addition to his arts administration expertise, he has been an active curator and writer.

1980's

Stephen Adams, BA ‘88 and Lisa (Carlin) Adams, BA ‘98, are expecting their first child in June.

Cynthia Boyd, BA ‘80, graduated with a BSW and an MSW from Dalhousie University. She is the Head of the Outpatient Department of Ridgewood Addictions Services in Saint John and also has a private practice as a therapist to women who have experienced violence. This year, Cynthia accepted a position teaching in the Social Work Department at St. Thomas University.

Kelly Coleman, BA ‘88, BEd ‘89, is teaching at Chipman Forest Avenue School as a long-term supply-teacher.

David Demirkan, BA ‘86, has joined McInnes Cooper. He practices law in Halifax, specializing in litigation and administrative law. David is also the President of the Legal Information Society of Nova Scotia, which is celebrating its 20th year of helping Nova Scotians understand the law.

Michael Lavigne, BA ‘82, started a new job as corporate services manager at Family and Community Services in Miramichi, NB.

Heather MacDonald-Bosse, BA ‘82, BEd ‘83, is the Executive Assistant to Gordon Wheaton, BA ‘72, at the Trius Group in Fredericton.

Rev. David Morehouse, BA ‘83, is celebrating 17 years as Pastor at Allison Church in Moncton, NB. He is also celebrating 12 years of writing the column “Religion Today” for the Times Transcript.

Leiza Myers-LeBlanc, BA ‘86, works for CGI as a Senior Consultant and her husband Claude is a Project Officer with APANM. They recently welcomed a new baby, Luke Jonathan, on May 1, 2002. Leiza would love to hear from old friends and can be reached by email at jcl@nbnet.nb.ca.

Dawn Watson, BA ‘86, is currently working in the Emergency Department of the Ottawa Civic Site. Besides this full-time job, she works as a teacher for St. John Ambulance and volunteers for them in three positions, Deputy Director of Adult Divisions, Divisional Superintendent and Divisional Training Officer.

1990's

Natalie (Hartford) Anderson, BAAJ ‘99, started a new permanent position, Coordinator - Member Communications, with the Nurses Association of New Brunswick. The position includes editing and publishing the Associations’s quarterly journal as well as maintaining their web site.

Theresa Bartlett, BA ‘98, graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing from UNB ‘02 and is currently working as the Director of Health Education at the New Brunswick Lung Association.

Meredith Bateman, STU ‘90-94, is currently working as a lawyer in Moncton, NB and recently opened a firm with her partner. The firm has grown in the last year and is now “Menard Bateman Michaud”.

Michelle Beardsley, BA ‘93, Certificate Criminology and Social Justice ‘93, has been employed with the Nova Scotia Department of Justice since July 1993. Michelle married David Shears in 2001, and gave birth to “a wonderful little girl” Abigail (Abby), on April 8.

Nathan Benson, BA ‘99, is currently an M.A. student at Carleton University in Ottawa.

Mary Bolan, BA ‘91, is living in Toronto with her husband Chris Bayley and son Christopher, born January 7, 2002. Mary is working at Harlequin Enterprises Ltd. in Human Resources as Manager of Compensation and Benefits.

Wendy L. Brown, BA ‘96, is engaged to Trevor Wheaton and living in Calgary.

Jeff Burgess, BA ‘98, is living in Ottawa and is a policy analyst for Environment of Sustainable Development (National Liberal Caucus Research Bureau).

Harold Coughlan, BA ‘94, BEd ‘95, has been teaching French Immersion for seven years and is currently teaching grade six, coaching basketball, and generally keeping busy. Harold says hello to all grads of ‘94!

Tara Crouse, BA ‘98 and Scott Derrah, BA ‘94, are expecting a baby in September 2003.

Tara Ellsworth, BA ‘99, is now working in a permanent position with Family and Community Services.

Georges Gauvreau, BSW ‘99, completed a MSW at McGill University in August 2000. He has been working in child protection in Montreal since February 2001. He is also working in private practice as an associate with the Montreal Anger Management Centre.

Lucy (McLellan) Green, BA ‘98, BEd ‘99, is living in Hartland with her husband Matthew. They have a son, Cameron Paul, born in September 2002.

Jennifer Handspiker, BA ‘98, BEd ‘01, accepted a teaching position in London, England.

Aaron Johnston, BA ‘99, BEd ‘02, started a new job in Northern Alberta teaching middle and senior high at Rocky Lane School.

Marlene (Power) LeShane, BA ‘94, BEd ‘96, teaches core french 7-12 at a new high school, Baccalieu Collegiate in Old Perlican, Newfoundland. She is married to a fisherman named Robert and they have a five year old son Zachary who is in kindergarten. She would love to hear from the girls from Vanier Hall and Jim Devoe. Peter Lindsay, BA ‘92 and Christina (Savoie) Lindsay, BA ‘94, were married in July 1997. They live in St. Stephen where Peter is a customs officer with Canada Customs and Revenue Agency and Christina is an employment counselor with a non-profit organization. They have a son, Connor, who is three and a daughter, Grace, who is one year-old.

Tina Manderville, BA ‘97, recently built a new home and has been teaching grades 7 and 8 for the past four years.

Samantha (Luck) Martil, BA ‘97 B Ed ‘98, is currently teaching grade 3 in Toronto and recently married Dale Martil on July 6, 2002.

Shannon (Murdoch) McKinnon, BA ‘98, married Troy McKinnon in 1999 and they had a son, Hayden Joseph McKinnon, born December 29, 2001.

Kendra (McAllister) McLean, BA ‘99, BEd ‘01, married Kristopher McLean on May 24, 2002.

Annie (Rivard) Murray, BA ‘98, married Chris Murray in 2000 and moved to Ottawa. Annie graduated with her MA in Gerontology from Simon Fraser University in 2001.

Leanne Murray, Certificate in Criminal Justice ‘99, graduated on the Dean’s List with an LLB from UNB in May 2002. She is currently articling with the Fredericton office of McInnes Cooper.

Michelle (St. Onge) Ouellette, BSW ‘96, is currently residing in Ottawa, ON. She married Louis Ouellette in September 1999 and they had their first child, Mathieu, a boy, on February 21, 2001.

Jeff Price, BA ‘97, BEd ‘98, was married on August 10, 2002 to Jessica Jakab of Mississauga, ON. He is teaching social sciences and is the head coach of the Varsity football team at St. Joseph Secondary School in Streetsville, ON.

Juli Ramier-Nickerson, BA ‘92, moved to Calgary with her husband in 2001, and is presently working for the Canadian Unity Council.

Maurice Richard, BA ‘91, is married and has two daughters aged 13 and 17. He currently works for Eastlink installing High Speed Internet in Summerside PEI and area.

Tracey (Short) Rumbolt, BSW ‘98, along with her husband and yellow Labrador retriever Clancey, moved to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory this past Fall. Tracey has taken a one year leave of absence from her District Social Worker position in Labrador, Newfoundland. She is working full-time as a social worker with the Family Services Team, Family and Children Services in Whitehorse. Tony Sekulich, BA ‘92, graduated from the Canadian Film Centre’s Professional Screenwriting Programme in April 2002. Since then he has been hired to adapt the best-selling book Blue Trust into a feature film script and is currently writing for the upcoming CTV comedy series Keys Cut Here. Tony is living in Toronto where he prays daily for a Leafs Stanley Cup victory.

Peter T. Smith, BA ’93, BEd ’95, is English Department Head and Acting Vice Principal at Kennebecasis Valley High School in Quispamsis, NB. He recently completed a Master of Arts degree at UNB. Peter and his wife, Stephanie Costain, BA ’93, BEd ‘95, and their four year old daughter Erin live in Hampton, NB.

Jennifer Underhill, BA ‘99, and her husband Danny had a son, Devon, in 2001. Jennifer is now working full-time, teaching at Miramichi Valley High School.

Dr. Manju Varma-Joshi, BA ‘90, BEd ‘92, married Hammond Joshi in 1998 and obtained a Ph.D. in education from OISE at the University of Toronto in November 2000. Later that year Manju and Hammond had their first child Nikhil Varma Joshi. Manju is currently working as assistant professor with the Faculty of Education at UNB.

Amy (Atkinson) Walker, BA ‘97, was married in August 2001 and is currently working for an accounting firm while studying to be a CGA.

Heather Gillett, BA ’02, is currently working on year one of a two year MA in Folklore at Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John’s. She was awarded the School of Graduate Studies F.A. Aldrich Fellowship in the amount of $15,000.

Jennifer Hammond, BA ‘00, continued her education at the Nova Scotia Community College and received her Human Services Addictions Counseling Diploma in June 2001.

Heidi Hayden, BA ‘00, graduated with distinction from the BEd programme at UNB, and is teaching a grade one class at Grenoble Public School in Toronto, ON.

I am compiling biographical and historical information on the province’s Members of Legislative Assembly and entering information into the website. She is also training as a reference librarian.

Lindsay Taylor, BA ‘00, completed a Master of Arts degree in English Language and Literature in August of 2001, and has been working at the Modern Languages centre at UNBSJ since September 2001, where she coordinates and teaches in the ESL Support Programme. She is also in the process of completing a certificate programme at UNBSJ in Teaching English as a Second Language.

Jessica Uyede, BA ‘00, is currently working as program coordinator of executive programs at the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management in Toronto, ON.

Sherri-Lynn(Milligan)Woodworth, BSW’00, was married to Doug Woodworth on September 21, 2002 in Halifax. The couple enjoyed a wonderful honeymoon in Hawaii and reside in New Maryland, NB.
