For Immediate Release: July 30, 2002 St. Thomas to Host Summer Theatre Festival St. Thomas University will host the inaugural NotaBle Acts Summer Theatre Festival from August 1 to 4. STU's Black Box Theatre will be the venue for three full length plays by prominent New Brunswick playwrights, Len Falkenstein, Don Hannah, and Colleen Wagner. The Black Box will also host readings by Hannah and Jenny Munday, playwright in residence with Moncton's Live Bait Theatre. The festival will also showcase new local talent discovered through a playwriting contest held last spring. The rules of the contest were simple: plays were to be no more than seven minutes long, have a maximum of four characters, and be suitable for all audiences. The winning playwrights are Stephen Atkinson, Charmaine Cadeau, Ryan Conway, Jeremy Gorman, and Holly Luhning. Each receives a $100 cash prize, script advice from Colleen Wagner, and the chance to see their play performed at the festival. Contest winner Atkinson says, "Having a new play produced is costly and relies on the goodwill of many people to make it happen. The NotaBle Acts Festival is giving New Brunswick playwrights opportunities they would not have otherwise." The five winning short plays will be shown in the food court at Kings Place, August 1-3 at noon.
