For Immediate Release: June 27, 2002 Millennium bursary lottery (Fredericton) St. Thomas University and the St. Thomas University Student's Union today launched a fund-raising lottery for the Millennium Bursary Programme to help students in financial need. This weekend, the Thanks for Giving Lottery will make available 3,000 tickets for $20.00 each or 6 for $100.00. The provincial government's New Brunswick University Opportunities Fund will match the funds raised by this lottery. The Millennium Bursary was created in January 2000 and awards $500 to students in financial need. The Bursary is also funded by the University, the annual gala dinner, and donations from alumni and friends. To date, 60 bursaries have been awarded. Cash prizes a $10,000 grand prize and five $1,000 second prizes will be drawn on October 14, 2002. The early bird prize which will be drawn on Sept. 9, 2002 is a laptop computer at an estimated value of $2,500.
