Fredericton – Dr. Michael Vertin of the University of St. Michael’s College will deliver the 2005 Aquinas Lecture on “Human Flourishing After 9/11”. The lecture, part of the St. Thomas University’s Aquinas Day celebrations, will be held Monday, January 31, 2005, in Edmund Casey Hall’s Ted Daigle Auditorium beginning at 4:00 pm. Members of the public are welcome to attend. Dr. Vertin’s lecture will examine reactions to September 11, 2001. He will apply general ethical, broadly religious and Christian standards of moral evaluation to 9/11 and speak to what these standards say about individual reactions to 9/11 and “human flourishing” afterwards. Dr. Vertin is Professor in the Departments of Philosophy and the Study of Religion at the University of St. Michael’s College, part of the University of Toronto. He has received citations for teaching and last year received St. Michael’s College Teacher of the Year Award. Widely published, his areas of research include the philosophy of religion, metaphysics, epistemology and foundational Christian theology. The Feast of St. Thomas on January 28th honours the memory of the
13th century philosopher and theologian who is widely recognized as
one of the foremost thinkers of all time and is the patron saint of
Catholic schools and scholars. In addition to the Aquinas Lecture,
St. Thomas University’s Aquinas Day celebrations will take place
on February 2nd and include the Conferral of T-Rings Ceremony, mass
and social events for students, faculty and staff. Media Contact – Jeffrey Carleton, St. Thomas University, (506) 452-0522 or carleton@stu.ca. |
