May 9, 2005 St. Thomas University 95th Spring Convocation Fredericton – At its 95th Spring Convocation on Monday, May 9, 2005, St. Thomas University will award degrees to 497 students, the largest graduating class in the university’s history. There will be 450 Bachelor of Arts graduates, 25 Bachelor of Social Work graduates, 16 Bachelor of Applied Arts graduates and six Certificates awarded at the ceremony. Leading the prize list of more than forty students, Marie Michelle Wilband of Saint John, NB will be awarded the Governor General’s Silver Medal for Highest Academic Standing in the graduating class. Yi Nan Zhang of Nanjing, China will be awarded the University Medal for Academic Excellence (Bachelor of Arts). The university will also present a Merit Award to Dr. Brian Ouellette of the Department of Social Work recognizing his quality and effectiveness as a teacher and his distinguished performance at the university over the past year. Dr. Ian Fraser from the Psychology Department will be presented with the 2005 Excellence in Teaching Award from the St. Thomas University Alumni Association. Well-known among students and faculty as an inspiring teacher, Dr. Fraser has established a high standard of teaching excellence and is noted for his enthusiasm, real-world examples and dynamic classroom environment.
