International
Applicants
The following minimum requirements
have been established as a guide to students applying for admission
to first year. Please note, however, that fulfilling these minimum requirements
does not guarantee admission to the University.
International applicants
must demonstrate academic strength evidenced in a high school programme
of college/university preparatory courses with subject distribution,
other minimum requirements, and academic standing comparable to that
required for Canadians. Criteria such as academic
achievement and rank in class will also be considered in admissions
decisions. *Please see country specific information below*
English Language Proficiency
Applicants whose primary language is not English must submit evidence
of proficiency in English by writing one of the following tests: Test
of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL);
International English Language Testing System (IELTS);
or Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB)
. Official test scores must be submitted directly to the Admissions
Office by the testing centre. St. Thomas University’s ETS
number is 0803.
The following minimum
English Language Proficiency scores are required for
admission to St. Thomas University:
TOEFL: 173 (computer-based)
TOEFL: 500 (paper-based)
MELAB: 69
IELTS: 5.0
Students with
lower scores than those listed below will be evaluated upon arrival
at St. Thomas and may be required to take a reduced course load and
English language support:

Bahamas
Applicants presenting Bahamas General Certificate of Secondary Education
(BGCSE) require satisfactory standing in at least five academic subjects,
of which one must be English. To be eligible for consideration grades
must be C or greater.

China (PRC)
Senior High School Graduation Examination + Chinese National University
Entrance Examinations
Commonwealth
of Dominica
Caribbean Examinations Council Secondary Education Certificate with
satisfactory standing (scores of 1 or 2) in at least five academic subjects,
of which one must be English. Must also present at least two subjects
at the General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level. To be
eligible for consideration, grades at the Advanced levels must be C
or better.
Ethiopia
Ethiopian School Leaving Certificate Examination (ESLCE) Students who
achieve five subject passes at grade C (or the GPA of 3.0 out of 4)
are generally eligible for undergraduate entry.
Germany
Marks from 12th and first semester of 13th grade from Gymnasium. An
average of 9 or greater on five academic courses one of which must be
German.
Ghana
West African Senior Secondary School Examination results. Students must
have an average of "C4" on five academic courses, including
English. The results must be sent to us directly by WAEC or students
can purchase a scratch card and send St. Thomas University the required
information to verify their results on http://ghana.waecdirect.org/.
Students must also have their secondary school send their transcript.
Great Britain
and other countries with GCE equivalent examinations
General Certificate of Education with satisfactory standing in at least
five academic subjects, of which one must be English and at least two
must be at the Advanced Level. To be eligible for consideration, grades
at both the Advanced and Ordinary levels must be C (3) or better.
India
An average of "satisfactory" 50% - 60% on five academic courses
on the India Senior School Certificate awarded by Central Board of Secondary
Education /Indian School Certificate (awarded by Council for the Indian
School Certificate Examinations - CISCE) (Year 12 State Board Exams
with excellent results will also be considered individually)
Kenya
Minimum of
"C" average on 5 academic courses, one of which must be English,
on the Kenya Secondary Examination. *Every statement of examination
result must be issued by The Kenya National Examination Council. The
KNEC can be contacted at PO Box 73598, Nairobi, Kenya.
Nepal
An average of 50% or greater (division two) on five academic courses
on the Higher Secondary Certificate. Students with the School Leaving
Certificate need to take the Proficiency Certificate awarded by Tribhuvan
University Kathmandu.
Nigeria
Students applying from Nigeria must present their West African Senior
Secondary School Certificate results. Students must have an average
of "C4" on five academic courses,
including English. The results must be sent to us directly
by WAEC or students can purchase a scratch card and
send St. Thomas University the required information to verify their
results on www.waecdirect.org.
Students must also have their secondary school send their transcript.
Students who have already
studied at the post-secondary level must present their official polytechnic
or university transcript sent directly to St. Thomas University by the
institution.
Norway
An average of 4 or greater (Tilfredsstillende - good) on five academic
courses on the Vitnemål fra den Videregående Skole - Certificate
of Upper Secondary Education.
Sweden
Completion of secondary education, with a secondary school leaving certificate
from any national programme and showing a pass of 90 per cent of the
points required (to include knowledge of Swedish and English) .
Tanzania
Certificate of Secondary Education(CSE) and Advanced Certificate of
Secondary Education (ACSE)
Admission requirements:
Two principal passes and one subsidiary pass in the ACSE examinations,
combined with five passes at CSE level.
Uganda
Advanced Certificate of Education + Certificate of Education
Venezuela
Completion of secondary education (Bachillerato) with an average of
15 on five academic courses, one of which must be Spanish, in the last
year of Bachillerato. Students should also forward their academic aptitude
test (prueba de aptitud academica) results.
Zambia
Students must obtain five Merit-level passes on the Zambian School Certificate
in grade XII, in order to gain admission to undergraduate study.
