Fredericton Community Welcome Celebration

On Thursday evening, September 9th, the City of Fredericton is rolling out the red carpet to welcome all 2004 first year students from STU, UNB, NBCC and Compu College. Shake hands with the Mayor of Fredericton and mingle with the Fredericton public as they celebrate the arrival of all new university and college students. With a portion of Queen Street closed, Officers’ Square will be totally transformed into celebration central. There will be street basketball, beach volleyball, games and prizes, skateboard and karate demonstrations, a mini dance troupe performance, a live concert and of course, loads of free food! Why is the City of Fredericton is putting on such an huge event?... Well, the student population is a vibrant and an essential part of the City of Fredericton. Every year St. Thomas and UNB alone have over 10,000 full-time and part-time students enrolled (and the numbers are growing)! As summer draws to a close, the community of Fredericton looks forward to the return of university and college students because their presence truly diversifies and strengthens the city’s cultural atmosphere. St. Thomas students can gather in the courtyard to walk downtown at 5:30pm. The festivities will take place in Officers’ Square from 6:00pm-8:00pm.
