Madame Maillet, born in Bouctouche, NB, is a world renowned writer and spaker, often requested to be an Acadian Ambassador on national and international levels. She received the most presitgious French literary prize “Le prix Goncourt” in 1979 for her novel Pélagie-la-Charrette. French for the Future, a national event recognising the importance of bilingualism and biculturalism, included six cities (Fredericton, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and Halifax) in its fourth year. Approximately 200 students from New Brunswick schools attended. The organising committee included vice-president (academic) Rick Myers, Laura Batt (BA IV) and Christiane Guérette (BA III). |
