St. Thomas University President and Vice-Chancellor Daniel O'Brien conferred degrees upon 59 Bachelor of Education graduates, 23 Bachelor of Social Work graduates, 45 Bachelor of Arts graduates, and one Bachelor of Applied Arts in Journalism. In addition, two students graduated with Certificates of Gerontology and one graduated with a Certificate of Honours Standing. St. Thomas also named Marie MacBeath, PhD, and Mr. Normand Doucet, MA, as honorary fellows. Dr. MacBeath is retired chemistry professor who developed and ran science camps for children, produced television segments on science and was a founding member of Science East Association Inc. Mr. Doucet developed and expanded the departments of social work at the Moncton City Hospital and the Georges Dumont Hospital. He was the founding Director of the School of Social Work at the Université de Moncton where he taught until his retirement.
Dr. O'Brien presented medals to the top scholars from the Bachelor of Social Work and Bachelor of Education programmes. Joe Anne Ella Hunter, of Fredericton NB, received the University Medal for Academic Excellence: Bachelor of Social Work. Jennifer Lee McQuaid, of Charlottetown PEI, was awarded the University Medal for Academic Excellence: Bachelor of Education. Graduating students Mr. Nathaniel Miller, BEd, and Scott Turbin, BSW, spoke on behalf of their respective graduating classes. Dr. Anthony Rhinelander,
who was named Professor Emeritus at the University's Spring Convocation,
